Bookbinding courses

I have had an intense period of training courses. First I was in England at Carl Rohrs calligraphy workshop.  And last week I was in Leksand on a bookbinding course. Every year Leksands folkhögskola have summer courses in various subjects.
In the bookbinding summer school the teacher is Leif Halldorf (he is responsible for the bookbinding education at the school) who is a brilliant educator and has extensive bookbinding knowledge. The summer school have both beginner and advanced courses. I can recommend to anyone who is interested in bookbinding to go on the summer course.
The focus this year was historical bindings - Carolingian bindings. When you bind books, you always have periods of waiting for the glue to dry - on that time we tried gilding edges and press titles. The bookbinding workshop is open around the clock and we all took advantage of evenings in the workshop except on Tuesday evening when we had a nice barbecue together. (A special thanks to those who fixed the food.)

On Friday afternoon, it was time to go home but Kerstin and me stayed another day and on Saturday we were on box course at Djura Bok & Pappersverkstad. In this course, Linda Gimle thought us to make book covering boxes. There was a very good course with three participants - luxurious with private tuition. Djura Bok & Pappersverksatd is a fantastic environment - that makes you happy to be there. Linda Gimle guided us through all the box making moments and in between we got fantastic food and refreshments. I can heartily recommend a course run by Linda G she is a very good teacher and a skilled bookbinder. A good ending to a good week.

I also took the opportunity to shop bookbinding materials at Djura Bok & Pappersverkstad.
